The Cayman Islands officially launched its new Public Safety Communication System at the West Bay site, (one of three new sites) on February 13, 2019.
The new Motorola®, P25 system and its robust microwave network that replaced the Islands’ aged Smart Zone 4.1 system started with a US$5.9M deal between the Cayman Islands Government and Motorola over a year ago.
Several officials including Minister of Home Affairs the Hon Tara Rivers, Speaker of the House the Hon McKeeva Bush, Director of the Department of Public Safety Communications (DSCP) Julian Lewis, and regional representatives from Motorola attended the launch ceremony.
“We are elated about this launch and the major role we play in the success of the installation from the start to finish” said one member of AvCom’s team.
Working closely with the DSCP team and Motorola, AvCom provided the expertise and resource from ground level up. AvCom’s Installation team of project management, technicians, and telecom riggers, have worked together for a smooth transition and will provide support to the final stages of the project.
Aviation Communication® (AvCom™), which is a pioneer in Two-Way Radio (TWR) in the Cayman Islands, was Motorola’s first choice to implement the new system. For over twenty years, AvCom has been Motorola’s partner and authorised dealer for the Cayman Islands. “With this lon-term relationship and successful record of accomplishment, we intrepidly took the challenge to enable the accomplishment of this mission,” said CEO Errol Kellyman, who also attended the launch ceremony.
